so i finally got around to watching the director's cut. let me just say: it's absolutely fucking amazing.
the theatrical is great on its own. in fact, up until seeing this version, i had no clue Midsommar could be topped. yet, here we are. ari aster captures the feeling of horrific desperation that comes with the end of a relationship all too perfectly. not only is it "the wizard of oz for perverts," but I'd also cite it as alice in wonderland for the lonely. it's a tragic and funny glimpse into a strange world never seen before and if i could tattoo an entire film onto my brain, this would be the one i chose. it's absolutely beautiful.
