The best ghost story ever made and the best film of 2017 so far. Deeply profound, beautiful and ethereal in the way it's shot and the way it's executed, David Lowery has made his masterpiece by starring a ghost that is both present but distant from his surroundings. The secretly filmed A Ghost Story is the most transcendental and moving piece of cinema in a long time and the most soothing meditation on death, grief and time and is an aesthetic marvel from its 4:3 aspect ratio to its naturalistic photography. In parts it's a silent film that plays like a sad lullaby, a eulogy for the dead and a reflection of the ones who live after trauma and how they survive through it's emptiness and mundanity. This is an experience that I won't forget about for a while. Lowery has made something truly artful and I'm so glad I got to be a witness of it.
