Advance screening with a post-show Q&A featuring writer-director Florian Zeller, Hugh Jackman, Laura Dern, and Vanessa Kirby (!!!!!)
Movie was a bit of a mixed bag, and I wasn’t entirely sold on a lot of the choices made by the director and how the subject material was handled, but I gotta be honest. That brief Q&A after where he elaborated on what he was trying to do sorta convinced me on some of those ideas I didn’t like initially. I still wasn’t a huge fan, but I think there’s some interesting ideas being explored here (albeit presented in a pretty emotionally manipulative way that felt cheap at times).
The actors all spoke so highly of the production and their director, and seemed to view it as an incredible healing experience for them in their personal lives as well. Pretty awesome to witness. I guess this is the kinda thing that locals in NYC can go to every week/month lol.
Also one of the audience members asked Hugh if he and Florian had any plans to do a play together, adding “Marvel hasn’t had a play in a while…” That man should have been forcibly removed from the theater
