2nd movie of the day. Got to go to a special screening followed by a conversation with writer/director Greta Gerwig. β€ I haven't seen all the movies she has acted in yet but definitely fell in love with her after seeing 20th Century Women, so of course was excited for her directorial debut. π
This movie is definitely more my style.
Man, such an amazing cast. Every one was so perfect. Come on, love Lucas Hedges and was so happy to see him on the big screen again. Laurie Metcalf was so great and had great chemistry with Saoirse Ronan. Ronan was amazing as usual. Loved her so much here. She was so fitting.
Really liked the story. It had a lot of funny moments, moments I could relate to and moments that were sweet. But boy did this make me laugh. π I loved the characters Gerwig created. They felt so real and natural. Very smart.
The music was fitting and fun, for the most part. I could see it having better songs though, like missed opportunities. I know soundtrack isn't a big thing to complain about but I love when these types of movies have a GREAT soundtrack and this one didn't blow me away like I hoped.
I did have some issues with the story. There were some places I wanted more, other things I wish wrapped up better and the ending was kind of eh. I think could have been handled better. But don't get me wrong, I thought Gerwig wrote a wonderful story and I'm excited to see more from her!
I would recommend this, I do plan to own and watch again.
P.S. I'm seriously loving not watching trailers before the movies ha ha. Didn't know anything about this movie and watching this trailer now, it gave away too much in my opinion. It was fun seeing certain things for the 1st time while watching the actual movie.
