Punch ★★★½

punch showed me a different side of korea, especially since a superficial international view of korean cultural products covers mostly the melodramatic kdrama/funny reality tv aspect.

thematically engaging in grittier topics like class and poverty, "illegal" migrants, religion, and how korean society on the ground is more heterogenous than i expected it to be, punch was a pretty interesting watch. the comedic timing of the edit and the relationship between wandeuk and dongju were some of my favourite bits of the film, and that hug towards the end was honestly really touching.
