  A more dramatic tale for JCVD to get his teeth into, although he’s not quite there with the acting chops. There’s still plenty of action but it looks like a TV movie and I don’t feel much chemistry between him and Rosanna Arquette. Still an enjoyable watch.

  Black Water 2018

  It was mid-way through this movie that I stopped and thought to myself, 

  “Who are these for?”

  These generic, low budget action thrillers that are pumped out on a yearly basis by these aging stars. You’ll find the odd gem like The Bouncer (and that’s mainly down to JCVD’s performance) but on the whole they are just so…bland.

  If JCVD could have kept up this level of quality then he may have stayed a box office star for longer. It’s a really fun, time travel action thriller and by my counting the FOURTH time he’s now shared the screen with himself. Also features surely his greatest splits moment.

  I’ll forgive the horrible sepia cinematography when the movie is this good. JCVD plays a tired, washed up version of himself and puts in the best performance of his career, and when that monologue comes along, well, it’s a spinning kick of an entirely different kind. 

  Wait, I’ve just imagined Seagal trying to pull this off. Jesus…
