Niko Ramses’s review published on Letterboxd:
Scream is without a doubt one of the greatest horror films of all time and what it did for the genre is nothing short of remarkable. While I do find the meta commentary to be excessive in some instances, its statements about the stale nature of the slasher sub-genre at the time are without a doubt methodical and deliberate in nature (especially given that these critiques come from a director who helped fundamentally shape this sub-genre throughout the 1980s). It is because of this meta commentary that Scream lends itself to repeated viewings every time you watch another horror film.
Another aspect of Scream that helps solidify it among the greatest horror films is found in the characters of the film. These are characters that are despicably loveable (with a special shout out to Matthew Lillard who elevates any scene he's in). They’re not just meat bags you want to see killed, but rather characters that you want to see make it to the end despite their horrible and self-centered personalities.
