I think the coolest part of the two John Wick movies (and there is a lot that is cool about them) is the world building. The people behind these films have created this crazy yet realistic world where hitmen are almost revered. They are above the law of the normal world but have their own law. They have their own currency and even their own special hotels. It's a world where I'd love to see a prequel that maybe shows how it all happened. Anyway, onto this particular movie.
I think with this one, they tried going the "The Raid 2" route, where the first movie had a fuckton of epic action but not a whole lot of story to fall back on. The first movie was essentially just a paint-by-numbers revenge flick that was just done incredibly well. This one adds some depth to it and I think that might be why I didn't like this one as much...but only by a little bit!
The action scenes are still amazing in this one and even more brutal than the first one. John Wick even kills two guys with a fucking pencil and it's brutal as fuck! There were multiple times where I let out an audible "oh shit" at a particular kill and it was awesome!
Ian McShane, Lance Reddick and John Leguizamo reprise their roles from the first but take a backseat for the most part and they're all fine, with the former being a stand out again. Common was fantastic in his antagonistic role but the main bad guy, Riccardo Scamarcio just didn't click with me. I also liked that Ruby Rose doesn't talk in this movie cos she annoys the fuck out of me. Laurence Fishburne was also cool but wasn't in the movie long.
There is one thing that bugged me throughout more than anything else and it's this...the gap between Keanu's moustache and sideburn on the right side of his face is about half an inch bigger than the gap on the left side...it really fucking annoyed me!
I really enjoyed the ending too and I am curious where they go from here for the third one! A very enjoyable action movie and I do genuinely hope they build on the world building in some kinda medium!
