Noah Kern’s review published on Letterboxd:
If I’m being honest, I didn’t really care for this until the last 30 minutes. It creates a really unique atmosphere for the first 90 minutes, but it’s slow and patient, so it’s not all that easy to sit through. That said, it really pays off by the end. Though it’s technically not a spoiler, I won’t say what happens in the last half hour just because you’ll get more out of it not knowing. Bruno Ganz is obviously great, and I still find him weirdly attractive. Also, Wenders’ direction is some of the best of the 80s, and his style is really apparent. Even so, it never felt up it’s own butt to me, which is surprising considering the kind of film this is. He completely deserved his Best Director award at Cannes. I didn’t take away all too much from this, but admittedly, I was a bit sleepy and maybe I’ll like it a bit more on rewatch.
