Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Star Wars: The Last Jedi ★★★

Let’s get one thing straight: Rian Johnson did NOT ruin Star Wars.

The last time I saw this was in theatres and I very much didn’t like it. It was a 2⭐️ movie in my opinion. I forgot to log it to letterboxd.

I rewatched it on Netflix last night because the new one is coming out soon and I thought perhaps my viewpoint had changed since the last viewing.

I still don’t really like this and I’ll give a few reasons why, but I do see more that I like and it is not unbearable. I love Adam Driver as always, and the cinematography is undoubtedly great. There are some very badass moments in this (mainly the hyper speed collision part). The white salt planet with the red contrast is beautiful. There are good parts of this movie.

But there are also parts that though I won’t say are bad, but they are not my cup of tea. Wtf was that flying leia scene?? The ENTIRE Finn and Rose side story with the casino is boring and a huuuuge waste of time in my opinion. Sure, Benetio Del Toro is funny enough, but the whole “master code breaker” bit really ceased to hook me. The brought captain phasma back for literally nothing. She does nothing. She shows up, talks, fights with finn for 0.2 seconds, and bites it. I wanna note that I have nothing against Maria Tran who plays Rose. I was just so annoyed by Rose’s character. But I think that ties into not liking her role in the film, not her in specific.

Idk I’ve wanted to keep my thoughts on the down low because I know a lot of people who love this film, and I do not hate it at all. I didn’t want to feed any of the drama, so I humbly write this review just to get my perspective logged.
