• Arrival

I’m usually not too big of a fan of sci fi movies but this one was pretty good. I liked the progression we got as they tried to figure out why the aliens were on earth and what their intention was.

The cinematography felt pretty crisp and allowed us to try and figure out certain aspects on our own and tie different parts together.

I feel like both of the main actors did a pretty good job, but nothing too remarkable. Overall just a pretty good film

  • Suspiria

Suspiria is one of those rare films that completely engulfs you in the environment. I was constantly bombarded by colors and different lighting, but yet it didn’t feel forced. It all felt like part of this surreal dream where these events play out.

The strongest pull of Suspiria is visually. Along with the colors and lighting, comes the set design. The set was so different from everyday life, yet it seemed to fit in perfectly. I think one thing that…

  • Gone Girl

    Gone Girl

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Hard to review Gone Girl without reviews regarding its a murder mystery in a sense, so spoiler warning.

First off, Ben Affleck absolutely nails his performance as a cold and uninterested husband, but Rosamund Pike absolutely gave me chills as Amy. She was so calculated and manipulative in every decision she made. Gillian Flynn did a great job of writing the screenplay and adapting it from her book.

I loved how you can definitely see the marriage as it falls…

  • The Suicide Squad

    The Suicide Squad

While I’m about as far from a James Gunn fan as it comes, The suicide squad wasn’t awful lol. It was way way more quirky than I expected though. Every single scene seemed to have some sort of wink wink look what we are saying or wink wink we threw this in a superhero movie and it was absolutely exhausting.

I know a lot of people loved this movie and I can definitely see why. It was a different look…

  • The Boss Baby

    The Boss Baby

Pretty much 100% what I expected, but it was still a fun watch. It’s been a minute since I’ve seen a comedy geared for kids so idk if it’s just me or are a lot of the jokes just geared for adults.

Like obviously there was plenty of naked baby butts and fart jokes but a lot of the capitalism criticism took me by surprise. Was an interesting watch nonetheless even though I thought the premise was pretty dumb lol.

I hopefully will not have to endure boss baby 2 but we will see how it goes.

  • The Forever Purge

    The Forever Purge

I went into The Forever Purge having not really liked the other films in the franchise, and this film was no exception. It was just so cheesy and full of Texan/ Mexican stereotypes.

A lot of the scenes were just extra dramatic and the dialogue was laughable at times (pb&j lines). Also how does it even work? You’re telling me they just magically united like half the United States to just extend the purge. I can’t even get help on…

  • The Green Knight

    The Green Knight

The Green Knight isn’t quite the story I expected, but I love what Lowery did with it. First off, there were some insanely beautiful shots of the landscapes and I loved the dark aesthetics that were present throughout the film.

I also think Lowery did a great job of staying true to the Arthurian Legend kinda vibe as he kept the film focused on the moral of the story rather than giving a lot of development towards characters. This seemed…

  • Old

While I wasn’t too impressed with Old, I think it had a pretty strong finish comparatively. The end concept was interesting and was probably my favorite part of the movie. That being said pretty much every other aspect of this movie was a miss for me.

The movie begins with some questionable at best, awful at worst dialogue, and this continues throughout the whole film. The dialogue is distracting as it attempts to throw in childish humor with a “serious”…

  • Pig

Went in pretty much blind, only knowing Cage lost his pig, and was very pleasantly surprised. I was expecting a revenge story, but was instead greeted with a touching story on love and loss.

While Cage had a standout performance, I really loved the arc of Amir as he struggled to find himself in a world where there are so many expectations set for him. Without spoiling anything, the progression of his relationships with his parents was really interesting and…

  • Space Jam: A New Legacy

    Space Jam: A New Legacy

I expected to go in and watch a movie geared towards kids that was going to be pretty cheesy, but somewhat entertaining. Instead, I got one of the worst movies I’ve seen since going Letterboxd. The fact that LeBron was probably the best actor in the film should say enough on the quality of the acting.

Don a header really had a disappointing performance, partially due to the script tho. I really don’t have anything good to say about this movie. I thought just about every single aspect was cheesy, even for a kids movie.

  • I'm Thinking of Ending Things

    I'm Thinking of Ending Things

While I did enjoy some of the dialogue and the isolating feeling that was present, it felt a little too slow and left me disengaged.

I liked the first half of the movie as it built some tension and had some yorgos esque dialouge lol. Their interactions were super weird and interesting.

I get like I was on the outside of an inside joke through a lot of the poetry talk, as I didnt know any of the poets and…

  • Twin Peaks

    Twin Peaks

Twin peaks is the perfect mix of crime thrillers/ soap opera, that I didn’t even know I needed in my life. All of the characters are developed soo well, and all have rich backstories and motives.

I watched this whole series with my dad, and it was his first introduction to Lynch/ surrealism, and he enjoyed it too with his only criticism being some parts were really weird. Hard to explain to him that that’s Lynch’s thing lol.

    Kyle killed…
