The Tale of the Princess Kaguya ★★★★★

the rare work of animation in which the physical presence of the line, of shifting or vibrating layers of color, become the dominant mode of narration.

a life grows like a drawing is made, the act of living in the world is tragic, and the images shift, deform, coalesce into shapes, always moving.

in 2014 such a surprise to see a film and think "i've never seen this before."
