The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games ★★★½

in terms of battle royale-based societies that are set in a future dystopia determined by class and oppression that are further expanded upon in a young adult series, this is the gold standard. i used to adore these films and revisiting the series after several years is a welcome reminder as to why. they’re pretty on-the-nose illustrations of caste systems that i wish benefited from more subtlety but it works for its target audience.

also, who has range like stanley tucci! the best part of the series are his + philip seymour hoffman’s performances and we absolutely do not deserve them.
