I have been holding off watching this for a while but I finally got around to it last night. And it was everything I was hoping for and maybe even a bit more!
This felt like this was made for me, hitting all of the beats that I love with an excellent mix of action and sci-fi with a more than just pinch of black humour thrown in the mix.
It has the soul of an 80s sci-fi/action film but with the modern CGI needed to really bring these ideas to life. And that is the perfect combo, never coming through as overly glossy and polished rather embracing it's smaller budget to create a really cool future world that doesn't feel like its reaching too much and over-stretching.
Logan Marshall-Green is excellent, continuing on from his great work in The Invitation which I also loved.
I can't wait for Leigh to direct more stuff, especially if its as fun as this one.
Also this gets bonus points for all of the Melbourne landmarks he's been able to fit in here, many of which are only a few minutes from my house which I drive past every day!
