  Ohhh hell yeah. Not a direction I expected the series to go, but thrilled it did. A sapphic Face of Evil/Poison Ivy with a dollop of Basket Case. Surprisingly silly, might seem more so considering it follows Re-Birth which is possibly the most self-serious entry so far.

  Totally scales back Ito’s signature horror, becoming something (somehow) stranger. Dreamy, willfully vague, and hypnotically meandering. The atmosphere of unease bleeds into every scene, even when nothing’s really happening. Miho Kanno is perfect, the score is great. Very much so my jam.

  Extended Version

  Forgot this is so heavy on se7en-like procedural and so light on gore (in a good way). Cary Elwes looks like an absolute ghoul. Every aspect of this is aggressively 2004. Jigsaw makes miniatures in an old mannequin factory. It’s alright!

  Leans into the medium (and tedium) in a way that’s particularly unnerving, kind of like you’re watching something you shouldn’t be. Bummer this director didn’t do more, this is one of most well-constructed and effective low budget horror movies I’ve ever seen.
