babylon is cinema to the those who are obsessed and in love with the art form!

it's sad that it's such a flop, as films like this are disappearing. however, while there's still time, it's great that someone like damien chazelle exists, someone who is absolutely passionate about cinema, and makes movies for those who are equally obsessed and in love with it.

So I think the first half is great, it’s really interesting, everything’s pretty tightly wound and I’m following. But then it gets a little much of the same and my mind wanders - angry white dudes running around and shouting and speaking in jargon that is becoming more and more convoluted.
Now, I still think it’s good and I think the ending does a nice job of leaving us rightfully satisfied and pissed off. Throughout it attempts to keep the…

    Sara Clements

★★★½ Watched by Sara Clements 21 Jan 2023

Coming to Shudder later this year is Laura Moss’s Frankenstein-inspired Birth/Rebirth. The writer-director, along with Brendan J. O’Brien, crafts a story that takes the Mary Shelley horror classic in a new direction, eliminating the patriarchal dominance over the feminine. Posing elemental questions about life and humanity, this modern take on the classic work boats terrific performances and succeeds at showing a mother’s desperation to hold on to their child, no matter the cost.

Do you believe in the soul?

Finished Seasons 1 & 2 (which is what this rating/log represents) over the course of a few months and I have to thank the friends who made me keep watching. The finale to the second season was incredibly rewarding and I think of what little I’ve seen if Lynch’s works this is my favorite. I can’t explain it but everything about it felt familiar, like I was watching something I’d seen or known of before.

Which is funny considering how dream-like and otherworldly the show can be at times.
