The Green Knight

The Green Knight ★★★★

For a fair portion into the start, I feared the film would fall into the 'style for the sake of style' trap, but once our protagonist begins his journey into the wilderness towards the Green Chapel, the film hits its stride and steadily gets better and better right up until the end. The Green Knight doesn't offer anything special that changes the game, but it doesn't need to because it doesn't want to. Yet it still stakes its claim as the most refreshing film we've gotten in the adventure genre for quite a while. Yes, it's not conventional storytelling and it may not be for everyone, but I dug the entire vibe of this. It shows off so much with its visuo-hallucinatory spiritual journey, yet still remains so grounded with its tale of magic and myth. Plus, all of the performances are equally eerie and good, all anchored by Dev Patel. As daring and alluring as it ends up being absurd. Greatness? Goodness? Honour? Virtue? Legacy? Nature prevails.
