ObscureHollywood.net’s review published on Letterboxd:
Gary Cooper, a novelist whose latest novels have been rejected by his publisher, retreats to his family’s Connecticut farm where he hopes to find inspiration for his writing. After a few days, his wife, Helen Vinson, tires of the country and returns to New York. Cooper meets the beautiful daughter, Anna Sten, of the Polish family who own the adjacent farm. Sten’s family, who follow the ways of their Polish ancestors, have arranged Sten’s marriage to a boorish neighbor, Ralph Bellamy.
Cooper and Sten fall in love, but Cooper’s wife and Sten’s family preclude any thought of their union. Matters come to a tragic climax on the night that her family forces Sten to marry Bellamy.
Directed by King Vidor, The Wedding Night is a slowly paced and pretentious drama. Sten did not speak English well and in her scenes she is mostly an observer, and only occasionally a speaking partner for Cooper and Vinson.
