“I used to think that my life was a tragedy, but now I realize, it's a comedy”

People in the film community, from Steven Spielberg to that guy you sat behind at an Avengers movie that one time, have been predicting that the superhero bubble is going to burst for about 8 years now. It’s probably true that, like the western, interest in these comic book characters will wane and popular culture will move on to something else. But in 2019, it seems the brand is strong with some exciting and wildly diverse films making their way to the screen.

“Stay away from the girls! Follow the Jews!”

Gurinder Chadha’s Blinded By The Light is a film wears it cheesiness like a badge of honour. The film is expertly paced, resulting in an absolute joyride from start to finish filled with tons of heart and a surprising amount of poignancy. From a technical standpoint, Midsommar is absolutely flawless with the cinematography and camera work being executed impeccably. However, where Midsommar falls flat is it’s minimal exploration of the themes it attempts to cover. The film is apparently about grief and relationships but this is…

“I don’t think Tony would have done what he did, if he didn’t know you were going to be here after he was gone”

While it’s far from perfect (pun intended), Spider-Man: Far From Home is one of the web-heads best outings and falls into the upper echelon of MCU movies. The film understands the core essence of Peter Parker/Spider-Man and deeply explores and even questions his mantra of ‘with great…
