Portrait of a Lady on Fire

Portrait of a Lady on Fire ★★★★★

It starts with a single flame, one small candle lighting the way. And then, the fire starts crackling, the flames multiply, magnify, until they explode in joyous song. Fire allows for the act of seeing. Fire liberates desire. Fire sets free. If you follow the fire, you follow the crescendo of the film.

But there are so many ways to follow that crescendo, to feel it burning within you, inside your heart, inside your gut, inside your soul. And I feel that fire inside me grow with each rewatch, different details, different moments feeding it (sometimes, they are the same). And when the waves come crashing, they don’t put it out—they, too, amplify it.
