Southland Tales 2006
Love when films decide to follow no conventions whatsoever!!! Is this a mess? Yes, but that’s to be expected and somehow the narrative makes sense for the most part (all things considered). Such an authentic and soulful movie, unlike anything else I’ve ever seen in the best way possible. Also a fan of any movie that can reference Mulholland Drive multiple times.

Inherent Vice 2014
More of a PTA film than a proper Pynchon adaptation. Lacks the sprawling bizarreness in its unsettling details and relaxes them with a screenplay, that despite all its confusions, still makes sense and functions coherently. Incredibly well done and fascinating still in what remains. PTA has an incredibly consistent track record. Even if this is the lesser of his films, it’s still at a level that manages to be another director’s high.

Eyes Wide Shut 1999
Still completely hypnotized by this film. One of the few movies that really haunts me to my core despite not quite confining to the norms of a horror movie per se. Excited to hear what Karina Longworth says about this in the next season of “You Must Remember This”, the behind-the-scenes stories on this must be insane….. perhaps not the best film of the 1990s, but an absolute masterpiece at that.
