okay okay okay i feel the need to revisit this even though i normally don't log rewatches... the first time i saw this movie was a shitty rip of a screener back when it first came out in japan last year, and i then proceeded to watch the SAME shit quality version about ten (or more...) times between then and the US theatrical release. i remember i rated it lower then and definitely ranked it lower than it should be on my movies of 2016 and it was 100% because i felt like i was giving it an unfair judgment because i love anime so much but like... having now seen it in theaters both subbed and dubbed, i truly believe that this is one of the best animated films of all time and one of my all time favorite movies. i wasn't a huge fan of the dub which, whatever, that was predictable, but seeing this movie that has TOUCHED ME that i love SO MUCH in a theater when i'm so used to consuming japanese media in terrible quality online because that's the only access i have to it was so emotional??? i've literally never made it through this movie without crying for the last 1/3 or so of it but this was different, man... this was a weird, incredibly heartwarming moment in my life. i love this movie SO. MUCH.
