Unironically, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special might just be my favourite thing that the MCU has put out in many years since this is simply a fun little 40-minute special that is just plain fun. Whether for Marvel or (especially) for DC, James Gunn never fails to deliver and is probably my favourite director/writer working in comic book movies today and with this, he once again delivers a blast of a holiday special full of fun gags and lighthearted humour. It works because it doesn't feel the need to get all bogged down with the type of world-building and pointless interconnectedness that really turns me off from the MCU nowadays since its only goal here is to make a few jokes and have a good time, all of which it does without any seriousness, just as I'd like it. Between this and the Werewolf by Night one from last month, these specials might be the only MCU stuff that I actually quite enjoy and might even look forward to more since The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is exactly the kind of silliness that I wanted from it.
