I decided to do this after starting to go through Ozu's filmography and realizing how many other Japanese films stood out to me by looking through some of his actors other films. What started out as an interest in exploring Naruse, Mizoguchi and Shimizu among others, led me to adding all of the major works from Japan available on FilmStruck from the pre-1960's including some from directors that extend beyond this point, and some titles I currently own.

Any recommendations of glaring omissions from this period that are readily available are welcome.
