Oren Soffer’s review published on Letterboxd:
Justin Lin joins the crew to start bringing his special sauce to the franchise. This film is held back by a shockingly uncharismatic lead, but the Tokyo setting is great and the paper-thin plot is almost a blessing here because it allows the film to focus almost entirely on street racing and drifting - and these are some of the best driving scenes of the whole franchise. 2.5 stars but an extra half star for introducing Han, the best character in the series, and for the final scene which is Nick Fury at the end of Iron Man-level mind blowing in terms of its implications of the fully realized cinematic universe that this franchise would become, but all the way back in 2006 and before anyone had any idea of where this was going (except Justin Lin who apparently knew exactly).
