Orla Smith’s review published on Letterboxd:
🚨 ATTENTION 🚨
This is the best film of 2018 so far and I wouldn’t be surprised if it stayed that way. I have seen it 4 times and plan to see it more.
Some things I can now say:
At GFF, I interviewed my filmmaking idol Lynne Ramsay, face to face. I have looked up to her for most of the time I have been watching movies, so this was a big deal for me.
I have since interviewed the film’s producer Jim Wilson, the sound designer Paul Davies, and the editor Joe Bini.
And I’m writing an essay about how it’s a subversive film which questions hyper-masculine antihero archetypes and the pleasure we take from violence. It’s actually quite a sensitive, beautiful film, which is what I love most about it.
This is all coming to Seventh Row on the week beginning March 26th. There’ll also be an essay and an interview with DP Tom Townend from my fellow Associate Editor Elena Lazic.
We’re really excited about doing this! There’s more info, and a preview of my Ramsay interview, here.
My producer and sound designer interviews are exclusive Seventh Row members only content, so if you want to support our work AND get some really interesting content AND get free eBooks AND gain access to the Seventh Row back catalogue AND receive our curated members newsletter, then you can do that here.
