Avatar: The Way of Water 2022
God, this ruled. Dedicating a full 30 minutes to whaling ruled. All the technical stuff aside (absolutely mindblowing stuff), I just love how sincere and earnest it is. It’s just so refreshing not to have the director wink at you and tell you how ridiculous everything is every 10 minutes. You’re just dropped into this world and you get to live in it for 3 hours

My Best Friend's Exorcism 2022
I don’t remember much from the book (it was a bit heavy on the 80’s references iirc) but I do remember enjoying it overall. The main friendship was touching and the vibes were fun and creepy at times. This is just bad. The pacing is too rushed and so the character development is nonexistent, none of the relationships feel real and pretty much nothing is earned. It just feels like the director heard someone badly describe the plot of the book and decided to make movie based on that. He hit some of the major plot points, skipped everything in between and called it a day.

The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant 1972
Fassbinder really freaked it with the camera work. Every single shot is perfectly framed and executed. Great screenplay too (a movie set in one room wouldn't work without one) but I just can't get over how visually rich this was. I can think of a dozen shots that are permanently engraved in my mind. Can't wait to explore more of his filmography
