Beyoncé including the scene where the sound malfunctions in Alien Superstar to build tension proves this woman is a cinematic auteur. We throw the word visionary around far too often but she, and this tour, are unequivocally deserving. May the Renaissance last forever.

Yes it’s superficial, and yes this kind of plot has been done before, but it’s almost impossible not to be seduced by Emerald Fennell’s neon dreamscape, Jacob Elordi’s sheer hotness and Rosamund Pike’s magnitude 10 motherquake. I’m hating myself a little for getting so into it, but investment in something so vapid and shimmery may well be the point of it all.
