An odd musical with the most literal songs possible. Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard star as performers on opposite sides of the respectability spectrum: he is a comic trying to not kill via laughter, she is an opera performer “where everything is sacred”. Driver is fire and grit but Marion gets the shorter shift. Simon Helberg was my favorite part as Marion’s accompanyist, striving for recognition.
