Oh dear. Not the fitting epitaph to a long and brilliant career that Ms Houston deserved but a formulaic biopic that’s one saving grace is star Naomi Ackie who puts in a terrific performance. Clocking in at almost 2.5 hours it’s long but it’s never boring however it is soapy, sappy and bereft of any surprises. A big disappointment, this one and colossal missed opportunity.

Well this was a massive surprise - I took the kids to see it today and the selection criteria was “best of a bad bunch” but this was great fun. An inventive, witty script with appealing performances and decent visual effects. Very good film for its type and it’s well worth a trip to the cinema. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Not an F1 fan, nor am I a lover of sports in general but this film is great. The two central performances are both effortless in their greatness and the actors play off each other well. Morgan's script is great and Howard keeps the whole thing buzzing along at a tremendous pace.

I am really surprised by how much I liked this film.

Wow! Now here's a film that lets the viewer think for a change. A brilliant piece of writing and a cracking ensemble headed-up by a terrifically fearless performance from James McAvoy.

Given that it's based on a book by Irvine Welsh there are bound to be comparisons to Danny Boyle's adaptation of Trainspotting but rest assured, Filth holds its own.
