Needless to say, the original movie is superior but here are some of the notes I have taken by watching the Hollywood remake:
- Another proof where Penelope Cruz is much better (and sexier) when she's using her mother tongue.
- Why doesn't Steven Spielberg make cameos more often? It seemed, he had so much fun wishing Happy Birthday to one of his most notable collaborators!
- "I swallowed your cum! That means something!" is a line that could easily make it in a movie like Tommy Wiseau's The Room and I don't necessarily mean it as a bad thing.
Following my favorite movie of 2018, Ari Aster returns with a disturbing, eerie and very challenging folk horror movie that explores some similar themes to Hereditary and yet it's very different. If Hereditary is about families then Midsommar is about couples. Concerning cinematogrpahy, production design and score, I have nothing but only positive thoughts.
