Smile ★★★½

This movie nearly gave me a panic attack.

This was actually scary. Like, hold me I'm fucking scared and I'm going to have nightmares tonight scary. Was it a great film as a whole? Eh, the premise isn't too original and it's handling on the subject of trauma is a little shallow (especially with the overly mean man that undercut the whole movie to me, just for one last big scare. It was sooooooo meaaaaaan).

But this movie scared the fuck out of me. So if that was its primary goal, it did a damn good job. I haven't felt this helpless in a theater in a long while.

This is 2022's "proper" popcorn horror. It's just straight up scary. General audiences are going to eat this up and its honestly franchise material.
