  • Quantum of Solace

    Quantum of Solace

    ★★★½

I was ready to come to Letterboxd and up my rating cause I didn’t think this was actually bad, and it already had 3 1/2 stars from me. I guess I never disliked this, but the internet made me believe I had.

It is the weakest of the recent Bond films for me. Everything is competently done, but the plot just doesn’t interest me. The parts that would get me excited were the ones that were referencing the previous movie... that’s never a good sign.

    Still, better than average.

  • Free Guy

    Free Guy

    ★★★½

In what seems like forever, I finally saw Free guy!

It’s exactly the movie I wanted it to be: light, fun, with a few references to existing IPs, but still original enough.

Ryan Reynolds is great. And Jodie Comer and Joe Keery have great supporting roles.

The length of the movie is also just right. It has instant rewatchability potential.

  • Jungle Cruise

    Jungle Cruise

    ★★★½

Even though I couldn’t watch this at the cinemas like I would have wanted to, I still had a great time with the movie and kept imagining how certain scenes would look on the big screen.

When the concept of the movie surfaced I wasn’t really interested, I figured it would be a weak attempt from Disney to milk their IP, but then a year ago I saw the trailer and knew it’s be a fun blockbuster and some effort…

  • Black Widow

    Black Widow

    ★★★½

I really wanted to love this movie. Black Widow is one of my favorite characters in this universe; my favorite actually, tied with Tony Stark (you can imagine my state of mind in Endgame!). I always thought a prequel was the way to go, and not because of the plot necessarily, we all know the background, we can imagine how things went down, it was always about exploring her psyche at that time. Still, the idea of a post-civil was…

  • The Tomorrow War

    The Tomorrow War

    ★★★½

If someone where to ask me what is my kind of movie, the concept of this film is my type of movie. From the moment I read the synopsis I was excited, and the trailer looked cool. Then the reviews came out, and the movie was summed up as “having cool creature designs, but a bad script”. So when I started to watch it, I had already readied myself to have my opinion be “interesting plot, lazily written, thin to…

  • In the Heights

    In the Heights

    ★★★½

Am I crazy for not seeing what everyone else is seeing in this? I was even considering giving it a 3 star rating, but the choreography was so good that I couldn’t bring myself to do that.

Theaters are still closed where I am, so I had to watch it at home. I know that influences the experience (even if I’m one to always close all the curtains, turn the volume to the max, and turn off my phone). I’m…

  • Cruella

    Cruella

    ★★★½

I don’t have much to say other than I really enjoyed it.

When the first still came out I was really excited for the film, then the trailer happened and I hated it and feared it would be Disneyfied a la Maleficent. Then the embargo lifted and I had hope again... turns out, it is Disneyfied, which is a shame cause I would have loved to have had the film portraying the journey of an actual unhinged villain. But it…

  • The Courier

    The Courier

    ★★★½

I’m a sucker for spy thrillers, so I’d been wanting to watch this for a while.

I don’t have much to comment on it. I enjoyed it a lot, but at the same time I was left wanting more. I did like the tone, so maybe it was the pacing where it faltered?

Anyway, Benedict Cumberbatch was really good! Not that that should come as a surprise... Jessie Buckley is showing up everywhere these days, I love it. The rest of the cast was also good.

It’s a movie that will be enjoyed most by fans of the genre I think.

  • Love and Monsters

    Love and Monsters

    ★★★½

My rating feels low compared to how much I actually enjoyed this movie, and that’s cause it doesn’t do anything new in particular, it’s a very simple story executed in the way one assumes would be executed. (Originally it was 3 stars but after thinking about it for 2 minutes I bumped my rating up).

Still, this worked for me a lot. Dylan O’Brian does a great job with line delivery, it made the dialogue and humor come alive. The…

  • The White Tiger

    The White Tiger

    ★★★½

I’ll be honest, I saw the trailer and knowing Netflix puts out 20% quality films, 80% mediocre ones, I assumed it would be one of the mediocre ones and didn’t give it a second thought. After it got some awards recognition I decided I would check it out after all. And it’s definitely a good movie, I wouldn’t call it great, but for sure above average.

The script and the lead actor are what shines here. While it did have…

  • Shiva Baby

    Shiva Baby

    ★★★½

A little over an hour of the most anxiety inducing community gathering I’ve ever seen. Since the moment the protagonist steps foot into the house, for her sake, I want the whole thing to be over, but at the same time, I could have easily used another 30 minutes of this. It flew by! I’m not saying it needed to be longer though, I feel the runtime is perfect for the story.

    A very very funny movie. I wasn’t laughing…

  • Zack Snyder's Justice League

    Zack Snyder's Justice League

    ★★★½

It’s funny, I watched BvS even though I didn’t want to just to be able to get to this one, and I ended up liking BvS better.

That’s not to say I didn’t like this film, I did. It’s without a doubt superior to the theatrical cut. It no longer feels rush, the story makes sense, the characters get fleshed out...

It’s far from a masterpiece in my opinion though. 4 hours is an hour too long. As much as…
