Film Club Week #6
I'm a huge Lynch fan, so I was really hoping that on my second watch I would actually like this, but I think I actually liked it less this time.
The Wizard of Oz references felt heavy handed.
While I liked the visual references to it (crystal ball, flying broom, etc.) I didn't like how the characters would make Wizard of Oz references every other line of dialogue. It felt so unnatural, like a high schooler trying to write a super deep paper but they just end up beating you over the head with the exact same metaphor over and over. We get it. She's the wicked witch. We don't need 20 dialogue cues to tell us that. Also, the pacing and editing in this are truly something to behold. There were a few bits that made me laugh though, so i guess there's at least one positive 🤷♂️.
