Somehow I habe a hard time getting into Cassavettes films... it‘s the third I have watched and I found them all to be meandering and exhausting

  • Suspiria

I‘m torn! There are some fantastic scenes, a great score, and an atmosphere to die for. But it is long and just wxtremely pretentious! I can totally imagine how Guadagnino after a long day of shooting sits in his van pleasuring himself for a job well done. Also Dakota Johnson‘s bad wig didn‘t help. But some scenes are just fanatstic to look at it and in the end I did enjoy most of the movie

Started out as a supernatural flick (which had me worried as I am not the biggest fan of the genre) but then did a complete 180 and caught me by surprise! Really tense and I actually never saw any of the twists coming. A pleasing mix of a few horror subgenres: murder mystery, home invasion, found footage...
A few logical inconsistencies here and there and Helen Hunt‘s very distracting face prevent it from becoming one of the better movies of the genre in recent years. But still a fun watch and highly recommended.

    The Wages of Fear

After having to sit through a long and slow start that introduces a group of completely unlikeable characters, you will be rewarded with some of the most nailbiting scenes I have ever experinced and end up rooting for the lives of the characters you hated and couldn’t care less about in the beginning. Seeing how the characters finally learn to stick and grow together is a joy.

That‘s what I call great writing and directing!
