The Holy Mountain

The Holy Mountain ★★★

The first 30 minutes might be the best thing Jodorowsky has ever made but once he started introducing all those other characters the film lost me.
There is some fun and interesting stuff to be found within those eight vignettes but that part is just way too long and full of boring political satire that I just didn't care about at all.
I could feel myself zoning out more with each vignette and when that shit finally ended the film had lost not only my interest but all its momentum.
Then it proceeded to crawl towards the anti-climactic whimper of an ending that is miles away from the sense of spiritual transcendence Jodorowsky obviously wanted to achieve.
I understand why people love it but everything beyond those first 30 minutes didn't do much of anything for me.
