  Romero’s “The Crazies” is a testament to the power of intelligent independent filmmaking. The fact that it is a low-budget horror movie is almost inconsequential. The Crazies, like most of Romero’s work, is overflowing with ideas. Its concerns are with human problems, both global and local. Another brilliant entry in a legend’s canon of films.

  James Karen is a goddamned National treasure. I celebrate his entire catalog, including this pretty good remake of a classic 50s sci-fi horror paranoia flick. The biggest misstep is the casting of the kid in the lead... I don’t like to trash kids... but damn. Was he Tobe Hooper’s nephew or something?
