Phillip’s review published on Letterboxd:
I think that the moment in which Lady Bird and Marion are picking out prom dresses might be one of my favorite moments in film. The line of "what if this is the best version?" breaks my heart every time.
I am currently sitting in my room, waiting for a load of laundry to be done so I can leave my parents house and return back to my apartment, where I will be living for the semester. This will be the second semester of my junior year, and if everything goes according to plan I'll have one more semester to go after this one. I'm terrified, to be honest, and have no idea what I'm going to do.
What Lady Bird taught me though, is that if you have passion and a drive to succeed, you'll be okay. Lady Bird did it, she was driven to go to school in New York and she did! If we're being honest, I want to have her determination as I go through this New Year.
One of my resolutions this year was to be honest with myself and others, and in a moment of sheer honesty, I realized that this is not the best version of myself that I can be. I wasn't wearing a pink dress when I realized it, but I was wearing a purple sweater. This semester I hope to become the best version of myself that I can be. Lady Bird would hopefully be proud of me.
I want to end this with two quotes that I'm living by this year. Hopefully they help you out as well.
"no one will ever define who I am ever again"
"be so good they can't ignore you"
