With the way cuts, shot duration and sound (dialogue and noise taking place in one physical environment, being produced by a certain set of objects and/or characters merging into a different place then coming back to the same environment now changed (only one of the many inventive uses of sound in Détective)) are handled in this movie, the viewer's spatial awareness is constantly being ricocheted back and forth from shot to shot. Therefore we do not understand the physicality of the narrative through a geographical awareness of the hotel but purely through the images produced by the camera.
