the tension between actress-as-anthropologist, actress-as-artist, actress-as-girlboss and actress-as-bloodsucker in natalie portman's character's behaviour is so compelling and also kind of the source of the actual humour to be found in the movie.

nearly at ryusuke hamaguchi completionist level.
this was my first kiyoshi kurosawa film so i'm not that familiar with what he does, but i found it really compelling how the screenplay retains some themes ryusuke hamaguchi is interested in. also, one of the most impactful endings i remember seeing in a while
