Caleb’s review published on Letterboxd:
Well I saw Dunkirk. My second most anticipated film of the year, and for good reason. CHRISTOPHER NOLAN!
And it was good. Unfortunately just good. I was expecting more than good.
There are too many characters to keep track of/care about, there's some sloppy editing with the cross cutting, all the soldiers look exactly the same so it was really hard to keep track of who's who and the music is super generic Hans Zimmer. (Hans Zimmer makes super generic music and then one really good theme per movie)
Ok so Tom Hardly In The Movie is in this and he was in the sky for sooooooooooooo long. Everytime it cut back to him I was like "Why and how is he still flying????"
There's good cinematography, performances and some really good flying scenes... But it's just too bloated.
The ending is all like
IT'S HOOOOOPPPPPEEEEE MURPH!!!!
It ties together too neatly and Nolan missed a perfect opportunity to have a burning plane as his last shot. Yet another movie that I did not like the ending of.
Also half the shots are people looking up at something.
