Scream

Scream ★★★★★

They don’t make em’ like this anymore, nothing beats a good slasher...especially this one.

With Scream, Wes Craven’s tension building, characters and a plot that flipped cliches on their heads; Craven helped to define a genre.
The final girl, the popular blonde and the killer with a mask so iconic it refuses to be forgotten, Scream truely has it all.

I can’t quite put into words why I love this film so much, maybe it’s because it so perfectly encapsulates the thriller and slasher genres or maybe it’s the irony of Tatum sarcastically asking Ghostface, “Wanna play psycho killer?”. That’s another reason I love this film, Craven put his all into Scream but he also knew not to take himself too seriously, the amount of times he outright mocks the genre is iconic in itself.

Today’s thrillers and slashers are all about shock factor, but Craven knew how to build and use tension - From the sharp piano keys to the intense close-ups when characters were about to brawl he will have you’re eyes glued to the screen and your butts on the edge of their seats.
