Everything Everywhere All at Once

Everything Everywhere All at Once ★★★★

I saw this at a Sunday matinee in Arizona, meaning the audience skewed old, white, and conservative. And it tickles me to no end that these people spent over two hours watching a movie that put an aging Asian woman and her gay (or bi!) daughter at the center of the universe, then filled out the runtime with jokes about dildos, butt plugs, and high-concept sci-fi shenanigans.

This movie feels like it's a million years long, but it won me over in the end. Ke Huy Quan's speech in the Wong Kar-wai-verse was so powerful it made me cry, and then made me cry again when I remembered it two days later.

This movie is a joy.
