• Mo Amer: Mohammed in Texas

    Mo Amer: Mohammed in Texas

I like to think of comedy as the great unifier.

"You dip towards yourself ... You don't dip out! ... You're like, "Oh, I wanna taste like what it's like on that side ... Bitch, it's the same hummus
    on each side. Okay."

I had never heard of Mo Amer before, but it was hilarious and touching getting to hear all about his middle eastern American perspective as a Texan. Bidets are really that popular around the world? I now feel so uncultured with my bathroom experience 🚽 😂.

    In the Line of Fire

Clint Eastwood playing a secret service agent on a mission to stop a man threatening to kill the President, had way more levity than I was expecting.

"Watching the President, I - I couldn't help wondering why a man like you would risk his life to save a man like that. You have such a strange job - I can't decide if it's heroic or absurd."

Haunted by the fact that he froze during the assassination of…

  • Norm Macdonald: Hitler's Dog, Gossip & Trickery

Norm Macdonald: Hitler's Dog, Gossip & Trickery

Norm in his later years delivering humorous anecdotes about modern tech, twisted mortality, and dogs.

"When I go to parties, I don't want serious discussions. I try to find somebody that is at my same level."

RIP Norm, I promise I will get around to watching 'Dirty Work' someday.

  • Killer's Kiss

    Killer's Kiss

    ★★★½

(The Average Joe’s Movie Club Cast)

Criterion Collection Spine #575 (Part 2)

Stanley Kubrick's underrated sophomore feature was so much better than I expected.

"It's crazy how you can get yourself in a mess sometimes and not even be able to think about it with any sense-and yet not be able to think about anything else."

Like many young cinephiles Stanley Kubrick was my first favorite director, so why am I just now finishing off watching all his feature films.…

  • Ichi the Killer

    Ichi the Killer

    ★★★½

(The Average Joe’s Movie Club Cast)
    Cringe Movie Bucket List
    (Foreign language film - Japanese)

With a movie this brutal and depraved, of course we don't get the satisfaction of the best character being Ichi.

"Listen, when you're giving pain to someone, don't think about the pain that person is feeling. Just concentrate on how good it feels to be causing someone pain. That's the best thing you can do for a true masochist!" ... I have a feeling Takashi…

  • Encanto

    Encanto

    ★★★★

Building an all-new foundation of family, music, and magic!

"This is my chance, I will save the magic. Wait how do I save the magic?"

The House of Mouse has delivered yet another incredible cultural animated musical adventure. In Encanto, we are brought to Colombia to meet Mirabel who is surrounded by magic from her home that comes to life with personality, to her family members with special abilities. She is the rock of her family by being there for…

  • Far From the Tree

    Far From the Tree

What it is like to be a parent in a nutshell, with super cute raccoons.

You will never fully grasp why your parents were so hard on you at times growing up until you become a parent yourself, and see how mischievous a little version of you really is. Far From the Tree is a touching reminder that you do need to give kids space to make mistakes, but be right there when they need you.

Also, I loved the hand-drawn look of the animation in this short that came on right before 'Encanto'.

  • Jonas Brothers Family Roast

    Jonas Brothers Family Roast

I did not know anything about the Jonas Brothers other than Nick being in the Jumanji reboot movies ... so I guess I am up to speed now. Plus I do enjoy a good Roast with all its mean-spirited comedy.

    "Mic Drop!"

PS: Go Kenan Thompson! Been seeing him in all kinds of stuff this year.

  • The Santa Clause

    The Santa Clause

    ★★★★

    (Christmas Movie Fest 2021)

And so it begins ... tis the season!

"Neil doesn't believe in Santa ... Well, Neil's head comes to a point."

I have been nitpicky about Tim Allen's The Santa Clause in the past, but this movie is so much better if you just relax and take it in as the fun Christmas classic that it is. Plus I really like the serious tone it has when it comes to believing in Santa, compared to how…

  • Michael Che: Shame the Devil

    Michael Che: Shame the Devil

Does anyone who has not seen SNL in the last decade know who Michael Che is?

"I don't hate Donald Trump ... I didn't love him, I didn't hate him ... I just wish he wasn't our President, if that makes sense ... But if Trump was
the president of anywhere else, I would have been like, This N#$% Trump is hilarious ... Why can't we ever get somebody this fun?" ... But he's ours, so it wasn't that funny."…

  • The Piano

    The Piano

    ★★★★½

    Criterion Collection Spine #1110

A harrowingly poignant romance from Writer and Director Jane Campion layered with themes of misogyny and sexual repression.

"Actually, to tell you the whole truth, Mother says that most people speak rubbish, and it's not worth it to listen ... Well, that is a strong opinion ... Aye. It's unholy."

The Piano is the story of a mute woman from Scotland named Ada who is married off to a man in rural New Zealand, and her…

    Hare-Breadth Hurry

    (Looney Tunes S28 E11:)
    (Bugs Vs Wile E. Coyote)

A touch of meta-commentary on the old plug and play Looney Tunes formula.

"You know, it's amazing the trouble this joker goes through to get a square meal."

With the comedy in these shorts wearing a bit thin on me, it was refreshing to see Bugs tag in for the Road Runner this time. Just something about the timing of the gags under the Direction of
    Chuck Jones seems to work…
