Weather – contingent, chaotic and complex – affects the images we screen and the way those images are made. In aesthetics weather has been but a footnote within the broader topic of landscape; and landscape art has chiefly existed as scenography for human events, static spaces for human ideals, or texts displaying and creating cultural and social power dynamics. This emphasis on the readability and comprehensibility of nature was mirrored by Newtonian mechanics. But as science shifted to the quantum level, matter emerged as indeterminate and chaotic.
