LSD (lysergic acid dythalimide) played a prominent role in establishing the tone of Ken Russell's 1971 dark comic drama "The Devils," an excessive indictment of political corruption in Loudon, France. Whether the cast and crew were tripping during production, I do not know, but the psychedelic drug culture certainly contributed to the acerbic style of this film, perhaps more than any other.
