Letterboxd — Your life in film

‘we’ll go soon. i’ve got you.’ 

pretty and warm, but also quite slow, and not in a thoughtful or interesting way. i like slow films, but something about this made it kinda a slog at times, which i hate to say, bc it is quietly beautiful, and i really liked the music

parts of this are so great!! and then parts are kinda, eh, hallmark cheesiness, but mostly it’s good and does well at bringing us into ruby’s world. i’m glad this won the oscar now honestly

cults are very scary to me. cult leaders are just, on another level, a different kind of person - this jim jones kinda shit has always really disturbed me, imagine having that sort of power over others?? absolutely terrifying. also the music in this is fucking great, and ofc it’s beautiful to look at. pta is becoming a fav of mine

‘the world went and got itself in a big damn hurry’

the brooks storyline alone breaks my heart. every fucking time. this entire film is special, but brooks? stephen king really is the best storyteller i have ever known, and probably will ever know.

tad and the poor doggy were the best parts of this film, the rest is kinda forgettable. tad feels like a real child, and i feel sorry for the doggy bc he just wasn’t v well looked after!! that’s all!! but yeah i have a feeling the book is a lot better than this. i’ll read it someday
