not to be annoying but the reason I haven't been logging much lately is because I'm working on this (and that's all I'll say about it)

I was thinking about why movies from the mid 90s look so expensive compared to virtually everything else... there's just this sheen of money over everything in a way that filmmakers seem to actively avoid these days. I could spend a couple paragraphs dissecting the various stylistic attributes contained in something like The Long Kiss Goodnight that account for what I mean by "looks expensive" but if you've watched a few of these I'm sure you know what I mean…

Vaguely baffling that any of this works, let alone that almost all of it does. The part with Helena Kallianiotes is great but it feels like a different movie from everything else. Actually, most scenes feel like they're from a different movie than most other scenes. And yet... it all hangs together and moves between them with such ease and confidence that I never found myself doubting where Rafelson was going. Obviously not out yet - it's still filming. Just logging it because I was an extra in it last night and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Like. Matthew Libatique looked at me. What the fuck. I could very well not even make it into the final cut but I'm still extremely excited to see how it turns out.
