Midsommar ★★★★½

in the director's cut of midsommar, aster implements a beguiling blend of transitional shots, extra bits of dialogue, and entire scenes while miraculously maintaining swift pacing. i daresay that despite its hefty 170-minute runtime, this breezed past me in a quicker fashion than the theatrical release. unlike dozens of directors cuts i've previously seen, every additional scene here felt instrumental and ultimately purposeful. in having the opportunity to further flesh out and cement christian's dichotomy, the climax in the near-perfect third act is elevated. in utilizing additional snippets of dialogue and glimpses at rituals, viewers are drawn further into hårga's hypnotic trance. in using an abundance of stunning scenic shots as segues, midsommar is seamlessly sewn together and becomes complete. thank you, ari <3
