Todd Haynes really wears his influences on his sleeves with May December, which run the gamut from Persona and 50s Sirk to all manner of small screen melodrama, not to mention Joseph Losey’s The Go-Between, which provides most of the film’s terrific soundtrack and can perhaps also be found in its hazy cinematography, which swaps out a sunny Edwardian England for muggy Savannah, Georgia.
